What D Rass@#$%!!!

What D Rass#$%%… Doan get mad when yuh read this hear!!!

Apparently the persons or some persons involved with Phrequency Studios have lately been smelling their own ish. Quite a bold statement you might say.

Lets get down to the nitty gritty. Below you will find a letter i document as Exhibit "A"

On Monday November 30, 2009 H.A.S (Hardest Starving Artist) Project was released featuring the local hiphop artiste Nitro. On that same date I (Dirkmouse "Da Bouse") had a conversation with Nitro via Msn Messenger about the said project. At the time the download link wasn't provided as yet and he assured me it would be available in a few minutes. Further to our conversation he (Nitro) asked me if i could do my own mix using the material found on the said Mixtape (H.A.S Project) that was due to be released shortly. I obliged after which I made mention of my intent to do so even before he inquired. I remember distinctly I told him I was going to surprise him…. His reaction was "safe… respect". So it was agreed and three (3) days after December 3, 2009 I presented him with an email which contained the download link to what was now called H.A.S "DeMixx Version".

Today is now Friday December 4, 2009 and this is what I was relayed to me via Facebook Email…

EXHIBIT A

Adam 'Phrequency' Worrell December 4 at 1:00pm Report
Hello,

I would like to notify you that you have violated copyright terms of use of the "H.A.S PROJECT" and have been reported to facebook for immediate removal of your "H.A.S Demixx".

While we appreciate your support and creativity, this is not how 'Phrequency Studios' operates when it comes to Business. As with any business, prior consent at the least, is required before the release of any collaborative works.

We appreciate your co-operation and future courtesy regarding this incident.

If you would like to submit your mix for future release,
submit to: Phrequencystudios@gmail.com

Thank you.

Adam Worrell
C.E.O/Producer
Phrequency Studios
W.I Barbados

Now lets break this down.

Number 1

Mr. Worrell the C.E.O/Producer of Phrequency Studios made a claim that I violated the copyright terms of use of the "H.A.S Project" and therefore he has reported the issue to Facebook for immediate removal of "H.A.S DeMixx Version".

First and foremost I being baffled by this claim and charge would like him to expand on exactly what terms of use I violated and further to that would like him to present the appropriate documentation to support the validity of this charge. I for one haven't heard any original musical content on this mixtape. None, Zap... ZERO!!! All beats to my knowledge are industry beats and therefore cannot be claimed as original compositions. As for the lyrics… maybe they are Nitro's unless he has signed over the rights to Mr. Worrell contractually. Secondly this material was and still is available for FREE DOWNLOAD. Again I ask… please elaborate and justify accordingly.

Number 2

Mr. Worrell goes on to state... "While we appreciate your support and creativity, this is not how 'Phrequency Studios' operates when it comes to Business. As with any business, prior consent at the least, is required before the release of any collaborative works."

Correct me if i'm wrong but didn't Nitro even if unknown to you agree to the collaborative effort as you call it? My advice to you is that you need to pay more attention to your so-called "Business Operation" and in future tie all loose ends. Don't blame me or get mad if the players in your organization don't understand the chain of command or blatantly disregard the companies protocol. Maybe you should print a "Code of Conduct or Employee Manual". This is not a matter of my concern... keep your subjects on a leash.

Lets take a pause…

I mean come on give me a break… is this the same hiphop industry that is currently in I.C.U locally? I mean lets face it… Artiste and producers alike usually complain of "No Air Play or Spins" but never once have I heard… "Don't play that… you don't have authorization… you are infringing on copyright".

Again I say... "Wha D Rass#$%!!!"

Wasn't this project available as a FREE DOWNLOAD? Lets be realistic. If you don't want someone to play your music don't put it on the internet… keep it in your head. Secondly if you don't want that music mixed, included into a mix or manipulated by a Dj again I say KEEP IT IN YOUR HEAD!!!

**ATTENTION** SEEK WRITTEN APPROVAL FROM PHREQUENCY STUDIOS BEFORE YOU PROCEED TO SPIN ANY MATERIAL THAT WAS RECORDED THERE. YOU MAY BE SUBJECT TO LEGAL ACTION.

Again I say... "What D Rass#$%#!!!".

Before I go any further let me give credit to Nitro for that phrase before I am charged any further. Its actually the beginning line of his track "Caribbean Hiphop" which is featured on the said H.A.S Project.

Speaking of "Caribbean Hiphop" this song explains some of the struggles and adversities that local artiste have been encountering for years. To quote a line from it it saids "Attention now let me show you whats hap'nin… the radio got the local artistes starving… the tracks like crack but we not important". I mean that clearly spells out the state of the local hiphop industry but on the flip we have a classic yet unique case of total reversal.

Here I am being accused of infringing on copyright terms of use. I guess the dudes up at Phrequency Studios don't really believe that they are categorized in the starving industry but are somewhere on top looking down smiling. I can only assume that this track was recorded and thought out by them in an attempt to help the less fortunate because clearly they are of the 'Elite'.

Again I say... What D rass#$%@!!!

This is hypocrisy at its highest levels. Give me a break and please I urge you… Stop smelling your own ish!.

Dirkmouse "Da Bouse" does not stand to gain from mixing the H.A.S Project. Why? 1) It was done free of cost and 2) I am not redistributing same with a cost attached. H.A.S "DeMixx Version" was simply a gesture on my behalf and a grant on the request of Nitro a.k.a Mr. Evahype. Personally I find the correspondence first and foremost ignorant and secondly offensive. I have worked the entire year only in the spirit of upliftment and propelling this needy industry in a forward direction and i'm hurt and appalled at this development. If you haven't noticed (Adam), I have earned the respect from most of the players within the local industry and i'm looked up to by many because of my sincerity for the art and the sector. Looking back on the situation my time and efforts would have been better spent on a much more appreciative and deserving group as Phrequency Studios clearly doesn't need, want or support it.

I have made the personal choice not to spin or promote any song, sound or person affiliated with Phrequency Studios as I will not and never seek authorization to do so. The thought alone is atrocious.

I hope the hiphop fraternity as a whole will learn and gather much incite from this situation.

Again I say... What D rass#$%@!!!

Do these guys even have a single original track on this Mixtape??? Copyright my… I think you should take your head from your a@# and look in the mirror.

Feel free to leave your comments.

Yours sincerely,

Karma Nai... The Queen (New Single)

Karma Nai is back at it again. Late last week she dropped off a hott new single entitled "The Queen" and boy was I eager to take a listen to the once ''Triple E Princess." Yeah... you heard me. She is no longer "The Princess" but infact "The Queen".

The recording features production from Triple E Studios and borrows a vocal sample from Danny Reid's reggae single "High Grade". In "The Queen" Karma Nai lays down the law and emphatically makes know her status in the hiphop arena as she sees it. Its uptempo, clubby and laced with feminine potent lyrical dominance.

On a real... its hard not to fall inlove with this one and i'm sure many ladies will soon adopt it as their new signature tune.
